JOSHUA BLACK
FILMMAKER || SCREENWRITER
Born in Melbourne, but raised in Rockingham, Western Australia, Joshua Black is an award-winning student filmmaker. In year 8, Josh found filmmaking as an outlet for self expression, predominantly found through his writing - having written his first full-length feature film script at only aged 16.
After years away from filmmaking, Josh rediscovered his passion in writing, spending 2-years in a local Perth writer's room, making connections and honing his craft. While at this writer's room Josh would make the decision to pursue further education through his attendance at SAE University College. Though still at SAE, Josh has continued to hone a variety of skills, being able to comfortably and efficiently on set in a variety of roles. During his first year at SAE, Josh would go on to create Black Horizons Media.
After directing, producing, shooting AND editing his first ever music video, and first project under the BHM banner in late 2024, Josh was awarded with a prestigious WA Screen Culture Award for Innovation in Music Video. Following this success, through a university project, Josh would write, direct, and produce HUNTER (2025), a short thriller that has recently been selected for Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival and Hollywood ShortsFest, with Josh's international debut set to happen in October 2025.​​
